Dermot O’Callaghan

On Tuesday 2nd May, the annual change of Captaincy took place with Adrian Toms handing over the role to the new Captain for Newquay Golf Club 2023/24, Dermot O’Callaghan.

Dermot joined Newquay Golf Club in 2009, a couple of years after he started playing golf at Treloy Golf Club. Dermot immediately loved the course and says that he felt it was an honour to be picked to play in the club friendlies.

In 2011, Dermot retired from his role as Senior County Referee to spend more time playing golf. This is where he met and got to know a lot of golfers. He was also a DJ at The Central in Newquay.

Dermot was asked to be Junior Vice Captain by Adrian Toms in 2021 and is grateful to Adrian for giving him the chance to be this year’s Captain.

Newquay Golf Club has a fantastic reputation and history that Dermot is proud to be a part of.

As his charity, Dermot has chosen iSight Cornwall, which is the only charity in Cornwall whose sole purpose is to support people who are blind or visually impaired, whatever their age, circumstance or condition.

He would like to thank all of the members and committees for allowing him the chance to be Club Captain of such a great golf club and says that he is always around if anyone has any questions or suggestions.
